Pizza Myths Busted: What's true and what's not?
Pizza is one of the world's most beloved foods but with great popularity comes plenty of myths. At Slice Pizzeria, we hear all kinds of pizza-related misconceptions, so we're here to set the record straight. Let's bust some common pizza myths!
Myth #1: Pineapple on Pizza is an American Invention
Think again! The famous Hawaiian pizza was created by a Greek immigrant in Canada in the 1960s. While it remains controversial toppings, its sweet and savoury contrast has earned it a loyal fanbase (though we know our chef Luigi isn't one of them!)
Myth #2: The Best Pizzas Come From Wood-fired Ovens
Wood-fired ovens create a unique texture and flavour, but that doesn't mean they're the only way to achieve amazing pizza. Many Pizzerias use high-temperature deck ovens or stone bases that produce tan equally delicious crust with consistency. At Slice, we focus on technique and quality ingredients rather than must oven type.
Myth #3: The More Toppings, The Better Pizza
Less is often more! Overloading a pizza with too many toppings can make it soggy and difficult to cook evenly. A well-balanced pizza highlights each ingredient without overwhelming the crust. This is why classic styles like Margherita remain so popular - simple yet packed with flavour.
Myth #4: Pizza Is Unhealthy, No Matter What
Like any food, pizza can be indulgent, but it doesn't have to be unhealthy. At Slice, our sourdough pizza uses natural fermentation, which is easier to digest. Plus, with fresh, high-quality ingredients, pizza can be a balanced meal - especially when topped with veggies and lean protein.
Myth #5: Leftover Pizza Should Be Microwaved
Stop right there! Microwaving leftover pizza can make it rubbery and lifeless. The best way to reheat it? Use an oven or a pan. A few minutes at 180C in the oven or a quick toast in a hot pan will bring back that crispy crust and melty cheese.
Myth #6: New York and Naples Make The Best Pizza
While both cities are famous for their pizza, great pizza can be found anywhere - including right here in Bangor! The Key to a perfect pizza isn't the location but the dedication to craft, quality ingredients, and attention to detail.
